How the Fashion of Gossip Girl Became Our Most Popular Series on Instagram

Gossip Girl Mondays are B.E Publishing’s highest-activity day by a landslide…and I don’t hate that at all.
It started in the Pandemic. As with everyone else, I sought comfort during the pandemic with more-than-a-few good old fashioned Netflix binges. My comfort show? Gossip Girl. I love the sometimes-tacky fashion, sometimes-glorious fashion, the sets, the sights, the city…New York City…my home-away-from-home that I miss so dearly.
Let me back up for a moment. I am OCD. Diagnosed. Not the flippantly use the word to sound quirky. I have legit OCD. Lists for everything. Lists for certain shows in certain seasons. Lists by month. And they have to be “just-so”. I’ll stop there and spare you on all of the odd nuances of my OCD. The short of it is that I wanted to make a photographic list of the most glorious fashion from Gossip Girl.
My Mondays were wide open on social for a story series, so I thought, well…let’s try a series where I post these really shitty photos of these Gossip Girl looks on my TV and see if people like it. Spoiler alert: they did.
How can one do a months-long series on an outdated show like Gossip Girl, you ask? Well, one watches the show and takes 1,727 photos of the TV and posts them with commentary—sometimes very snarky commentary. I added polls in, which seemed to delight viewers even more. Then, the snarky DMs would come rolling in. One of my favorites came from an avid viewer who essentially likened Chuck Bass’s entire wardrobe to weatherman chic. (She’s not wrong). Gossip Girl Monday might seem so silly and frivolous, but I have to say that some of the messages I got every single week made me tear up. To many, it served as a much-needed escape during the trials of 2020 and early 2021 and in return, it was my own little escape.
So where are we with Gossip Girl currently? We are MONTHS into Gossip Girl Mondays and we are headed to a temporary finale this coming Monday 02/01/2021. We’ll be back for interiors of the original Gossip Girl and for the reboot of Gossip Girl releasing this year on HBO MAX.
