Leslie and Aidan and Their Oklahoma Farmer’s Market Wedding

Meet Leslie and Aidan : High School sweethearts who knew instantly they were meant for forever. Although they weren’t able to be in the same geographical location for their nearly-10 year relationship, they knew they could push through a long-distance relationship and attending different Universities to ultimately get married.

Leslie was completely surprised when Aidan proposed in Riviera Maya during fall break of her Master’s Program.  She was attending school to become a Physician’s Assistant and he was living in another city, so she was certain an engagement was distant.  While walking on the beach, he got down on one knee and asked Leslie if she would spend the rest of her life with him.

Paying homage to Leslie's heritage was important to Aiden and Leslie, so guests dined on traditional Mexican dinner on terra cotta plates. Horchata, Coca Cola, Pan Dulce, and a Tres Leches wedding cake were served; all the while, a mariachi band serenaded the newlyweds with Spanish love songs. The foodie newlyweds said the Mexican dinner was one of the best parts of the night.

We asked Leslie and Aidan if they exchanged traditional vows or wrote their own, and Leslie’s answer was : “We exchanged traditional vows. It would be impossible to write nearly 10 years of Aidan into my vows without sobbing.”  She knew she had to go traditional to be able to make it through the ceremony.

They say the guests singing and dancing to the last song, Closer by The Chainsmokers, is another part of the night they won’t forget.  “It’s not a classic choice by any means, but it was the song we always jammed out to when going out during our final year at Oklahoma State University. It was nostalgic to be surrounded by our closest friends from college.”

As this is our first blog post, we thought we’d make a note here to tell you that we’ll be asking all of our featured couples what their date-night/day go-to is and what their favorite local Oklahoma businesses are. Since we are passionate about celebrating love stories and local businesses, we thought it only fitting to include our couples’ interviews.

Their favorite date night go-to in Oklahoma City is The Wedge for pizza, walking to the Criterion, or staying in to watch a movie.  Their favorite daytime date go-to is Hank’s coffee and walks around Midtown.  Growing up in Uptown, most of the places in the Paseo Arts District is important to them.  In high school, they would dine at Sauced and now dine at Picasso Cafe regularly.  The Pump is a favorite spot of theirs for a drink on the patio.

The couple has since moved to Texas, but say that the new developments in Oklahoma City are exciting to watch.  To them, Oklahoma City will always be home “no matter how much the city changes.”
