A Joshua Tree Poolside Anniversary Photoshoot

I’d like to begin this post with a thank you to Louise of Taylor & Porter for submitting this post. As the world holds its breath in a standstill due to COVID-19 , and as I was waiting and hoping for a negative COVID test for my own son, this gallery transported me to happier and simpler times while also giving me a heavy dose of gratefulness of past adventures. I hope you, the reader, are finding yourself staying healthy and safe.

From Photographer Louise of Taylor & Porter:

In these challenging times, I hope these photographs serve as a reminder of what a great privilege it is to be able to roam our outstandingly varied planet. I was honoured when Emily & Johann asked me to join them on their vacation to document their anniversary trip in Joshua Tree, California. Travel can enhance our closest relationships in the most profound of ways. The unknown and uncertain, navigated skilfully together, can create not only memories, but bonds that build resilience to whatever challenges life may bring. The feeling of the open road in America is well documented for good reason; the landscapes of vast, seemingly endless skies with the horizon ever out of reach, make for a feeling of limitless adventure. Stays in hideaways featuring architecture and interior design elements that reflect the landscape they’re situated in, give the feeling of walking in another's footsteps for a while. The people and places we encounter along the journey enrich our lives in countless other small ways and we emerge changed. Personally I shall remember the quantities of stars visible at night, the cold but technicolor sunrises and the warm and all embracing sunsets. In this time of slowing down and less movement the contrast of the open road has never felt more poignant. When this period of uncertainty is resolved, let’s continue to explore, and make a vow to treasure our adventures together more than ever.

From Planner and Stylist Nord and Mae

Working with Emily & Johann on designing this story was a very intuitive process. We talked about their love of travel and adventure, about the many places they had visited and about Emily’s sources of inspiration for her everyday life. Taking time off from their busy lives is important for them, so every moment they spend together away from work and their everyday lives is a little celebration of their love and they want to make it count. The story of the day was ultimately defined by Emily & Johan’s daily rituals while on vacation as well as by their yearning for freedom and adventure. We guided them gently through the scenes, yet every gesture, every touch, every emotion was real to the moment.
