An Engagement in the Heart of Historic Charleston

An Engagement in the Heart of Historic Charleston

We instantly connected with the chemistry and the location when this gorgeous gallery from Kailee Dimeglio Photography hit the inbox. We knew we’d picked a good one when we received the story back from the photographer and couple.

We hope you enjoy this sweet southern piece as much as we do.

From the photographers :

Savanna and I instantly connected via instagram and started chatting up locations & outfits for the shoot!. When she told me she decided on two dresses, one blue and one white, I had just the right location recommendation. I recently saw that the bushes along the stairway to The Rutledge Inn were blooming with pretty blue flowers and thought it would make for beautiful photos with her blue dress. Y’all, let me just tell you, IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT. Photographing these two was a breeze. All four of us were laughing the entire time; so much that I cannot recall exactly what we were laughing about.

Fast forward a few weeks after their engagement session, we received a DM from Tyler asking us for a wedding contract—he wanted to surprise Savanna by booking us for their big day. I got so excited as if I were the one getting surprised, and I’m STILL smiling as I’m typing this for y’all to read! We put together our welcome box and dropped it off to Tyler so he could give it to his future bride for the big reveal. Needless to say…she was thrilled!

From Savanna & Tyler :

How did you meet? When did you fall in love?

Tyler and I met on a Thursday night in a downtown bar in Charleston. I was out with my college girl friends, while he was out meeting a friend. He offered to buy me a drink. I politely declined because A) this was supposed to be a night out with my girlfriends— I wasn’t interested in meeting a new guy and B) I’m an independent woman who didn’t need a man to buy her a drink…so I thought. Little did I know, Tyler knew the bartenders and asked them not to serve me. When I realized I wasn’t getting the bartender's attention, I looked at him, and he said “whatcha drinking?,” which I replied “bourbon and ginger.” And as he would say it, "it was love at first drink” because he, too, loves a bourbon and ginger—and loves a girl who drinks it.

What is your favorite date night? (bonus points if it includes a local restaurant or business)

Tyler and I LOVE to go out to eat for our date nights. Luckily, we live in a place where there is an endless supply of wonderful restaurants. Some of our favorite repeats are Jackrabbit Filly, Xiao Bao Biscuit, Chubby Fish, Malagon, and Park Cafe.

One of my all-time favorite date nights happened recently during the Coronavirus pandemic. Tyler recommended we get to-go food from Kwei Fei and have a picnic on his tailgate while parked on the side of the road a little ways from our house and watched the sunset. It was perfect.

Tell us about your funniest memory of your relationship.

In 2018, I was able to get Tyler to finally leave the country on vacation.  We decided to head to Costa Rica and drive around the country. We specifically asked the car rental shop for an automatic because neither of us knew how to drive a manual. But of course, we ended up with a manual.  We soon found ourselves learning how to drive a stick shift through the narrow hillsides of Costa Rica. I give props to Tyler because he learned how to do this in two days. He must have stalled out on every single hill, but he never once gave up on it. This was a true test to our trust and communication. It was not very funny in the moment, but it is one of our funniest memories looking back on it that has definitely shaped us into a better couple.

What has been your favorite part of your engagement?

I would have to say both of our favorite parts of the engagement season has really been planning the wedding. We have found out what we both want/need at the wedding. We don’t always want the same things so we have had a lot of fun in trying to combine both our wants into one big idea.

What are you looking forward to most about your wedding day?

Savanna: I am just looking forward to bringing all of our family and friends together to celebrate us. I am excited to marry my best friend, and I can’t wait to dance with my dad. Also, Tyler and I are big-time wedding dancers, and we cannot wait for the dance party to go down.

Tyler: I am looking forward to having my family and friends together to celebrate our love.  My best friend and I have been waiting a long time to finally be able to have the wedding of our dreams, and it is right around the corner!

What advice would you give to other engaged couples?

Savanna: Communicate with each other. Figure out what is important to each of you for the wedding. Splurge on the important things, and don’t sweat the other stuff.

Tyler: For the Men, when she asks you to choose a color, just pick one, no matter which one you pick she will still choose the opposite one! Lol.
