Armon fell for Destiny when she was in the audience for one of his musical gigs. He saw her and could not focus on what he was playing. After their two-year long-distance relationship, Armon knew he wanted to marry her.
Destiny says that she knew she wanted to marry Armon when he met her family for Christmas in 2017. In the spring of 2019, Armon surprised Destiny with a proposal. He had her best friends from Kansas City, church members, and close friends gathered together at Centennial Park. Each held a black umbrella and a red rose with a tag that said, “I choose you.” “I walked up the stairs and collected each rose. With each step, I felt the tears building and of course, I tried to hold them back because...makeup,” she jokes. When she reached the top of the stairs, she saw more friends holding signs with words that spelled “Will you marry me?” Armon walked out in the pouring rain and proposed. “I literally tear up when I watch the video. It was the PERFECT surprise,” she recalls.
True to their engagement, it rained all day on the day of the wedding—almost. The rain stopped 30 minutes before they began taking photos before the ceremony. They tell us this is one of the top moments they will remember during their day. Other favorite moments include the moment Destiny’s family arrived at the wedding, celebrating with all of their friends and family together during the reception, and when their pastor prayed over them during the ceremony. They feel blessed by the generosity shown to them throughout their wedding process. For the ceremony, the couple opted to exchange traditional vows and perform a unity sand pouring. The unity sand was deeply meaningful to the couple as it symbolized their lives merging together to become one. They add, “It was truly a miracle how God orchestrated everything to happen for us to be able to have an amazing wedding day.”
We spoke with Victoria Marrs, Director of Events at Glass Chapel—Destiny and Armon’s venue—about their wedding, and what she said only furthers what can be felt by simply looking at their wedding photos. “The element that I loved the most about Destiny and Armon’s wedding process and day-of was the strength of their community. They received the best out of everyone that they knew. Nothing was over the top except for the love that everyone had for each other. You can tell just how much everyone respected each other and the commitment that Destiny and Armon were making that day,” she recalls. We love her thoughts on their wedding photos, “My favorite photos have to be Destiny coming into the chapel! That is Destiny in a nutshell—gorgeous, regal, and one big smile,” she emphasized “The other one I loved was the black and white one with them in front of the arbor. It reminded me of family wedding photos that I flip through still to this day. There is something significant in that photo that I can’t put my finger on, but I kid you not, I plan on hanging it up in my house one day. It’s historical to me.” She summed it up by saying, “Planning the big day with these two was some of the most fun that I have ever had. They didn’t have a huge budget but that didn’t matter. It came out beautifully because they were willing to add to the day what needed to be added and go without what shouldn’t be there. It was about them and their people. Isn’t that what life is about?”
Destiny and Armon’s go-to date night is game night with their friends. Their favorite local spots include The Gathering Place, Fat Guys, and Leon’s Smoke Shack Barbeque.
