The Sweetest Anniversary Shoot in a Modern and Airy California Home

Chemistry. That was the first descriptor that came to mind when Clancey and David’s anniversary session submission hit my inbox. I fell in love with their chemistry told through gorgeous imagery, and I’m excited to share what Clancey had to say about their relationship. As for the imagery itself, I’m captivated by the visual storytelling Alp and Isle told of Clancey and David’s day in this gorgeous California home. Enjoy!

Tell us about your love story. How did you meet? When did you fall in love?

David and I met in Fort Collins, Colorado and started dating immediately. We went on a first date and the following day we went on another and continued going on date every day for 6 month before we moved in together and the rest is kind of history.

How long have you been married?

3 and a half years!

What do you remember most about your wedding?

Our wedding was really special because we made all of the decisions together and only did the things that were important to us. We had pancakes for dinner and a grand piano to play soft music the entire evening. No dj, no dancing, no cake. Just things we cared about. I think the most special thing was getting ready together and not having to do a first look or walk down the aisle. We walked hand in hand and that just felt the most comfortable to us.

4. What is your favorite date night (bonus points if it includes a local restaurant or business)

While we do really enjoy spending time together—a lot—our favorite date nights are usually involving cooking at home and listening to music. I went to culinary school and David loves to eat, soooo it’s a win all around. When I first met him he ate rice and chicken every meal so let’s just agree that his palate has improved ;).

5. What is the sweetest thing your spouse has ever said to you or done for you?

We love love love to travel. Usually, when we plan a trip we divide and conquer. For instance I will plan all the restaurants and David will make sure the places we stay are really special. We love to have little surprises for each other on these trips, usually experiences not gifts.

6. Did you have a first dance at your wedding? Can you recall the song?

Gosh, everyone thinks this is so strange but we didn’t dance at our wedding. We collectively have 4 left feet so it felt like an easy thing to nix. If I had to pick a song to describe our relationship it would be “Honey, Honey.” The Mama Mia version, obviously. Upbeat and silly. We don’t take ourselves very seriously.

7. Tell us your funniest memory of your relationship.

When we go on long drives we will listen to funny podcasts or audiobooks and laugh at something comical, then start laughing at each other and eventually either have to pause & regroup or pull over.

8. Best advice for a long-lasting marriage?

Don’t fight. Obviously, you will have things that make you sad or angry and things you disagree on but don’t take things out on your person. Talking things out is always easier than fighting. The person you are married to is supposed to be your very most special, most loved individual. Always treat them that way.

9. How do you think you'll celebrate your 50th wedding anniversary?

Hmmm, we will be 73 and 75 so probably be out getting botox and a glass of Pinot Noir.

10. Tell us about this shoot.

This Session was a blend of creative genius from Alp and Isle & Nord and Mae. They reached out to us on instagram and asked if we would like to meet them in California to relax and create for a few days. California beaches and a pool in the backyard, sounded like a win! Honestly, these are my favorite times and when magic happens. They just played music let us interact with each other. We loved this weekend and think about it often.
