A St. Lucia Christmas by XO by Haleigh Kenney

A St. Lucia Christmas by XO by Haleigh Kenney

Sometimes I get caught up in the trivial traditions of Christmas. For some it is baking Christmas cookies together, wearing footed pajamas, or setting out cookies for Santa. All of those are wonderfully enjoyable tradition but during the most wonderful of holidays shouldn’t we be more concerned about the truly meaningful traditions? For Haleigh Kenney of XO Events & Design these traditions root back to her Swedish heritage.

“My favorite Christmas gift I ever received from my Grandma was the Kirsten American Girl Doll. Kirsten was a Swedish girl living in America who planned a St. Lucia celebration for her family to keep their old Swedish traditions alive. I loved reading her story and in a unique way I think those stories have always inspired me to learn more about my family’s history.

So Haleigh was inspired to continuously learn more about her heritage. Browsing through ancestry documents and planning trips. Through it she learned about the celebration of St. Lucia, and the rich traditions that honored her. “It is said that to vividly celebrate St. Lucy's Day will help one live the long winter days with enough light.”

What a beautiful tradition, and story to shape this St. Lucia’s Day wedding. Haleigh pulled from this celebration and used thoughtful Swedish inspired details to create this shoot. She truly captured the story. So this Christmas I hope to enjoy the trivial traditions, but focus on the ones to bring light to endure through the long winter.

And a little something special - enjoy the behind the scenes short film below!
