California Anniversary Session

California Anniversary Session | cottagehillmag.com

We love seeing romance and commitment lasting through the years. This hillside anniversary session is no exception to romance. Katie and Eric's love for each other is evident both in the beautiful moments photographer Jake Anderson captured and Katie's words she shared with us below.

What is your favorite memory from your wedding: The day was such a blur! There were so many good things! One of the most humbling moments was looking out during dinner and realizing that all those people were there because they loved us. There were so many people who were a part of our lives in all different capacities. We felt so blessed and cherished that day and that visual was a reminder of how supported and loved we were.

What has been the biggest thing you both have learned from marriage: Wow, this is a tough one! We have learned so much more than we thought possible. We have learned how selfish we are and how easy it is to let the little things irritate us. We have learned that sometimes we fall into a routine and become more like roommates than a married couple. We have learned that being married is one of the hardest things to ever do. But because of those things, we have learned to be gracious and selfless. We have learned to love through the rough days and not go to bed at night angry. We have learned the importance of date night and loving each other in little ways, as well as celebrating the big things in life. We have learned that the love we have for each other is only a fraction of the love God has for us. It is truly incredible.

What advice do you have for engaged couples: During the wedding planning process, it can seem overwhelming to get everything done in time. It is so important to take time, step back and realize why you are doing all this planning. Remember that you are not just planning a wedding, but more importantly you are planning a marriage. Try to implement a date night every week or every other week to do something fun together that doesn't revolve around wedding planning. Go get ice cream or dinner, watch a movie, or go for a walk--something that is low key and relaxing that reminds you of your love for each other and the greater purpose of the day you are planning.

What are you most looking forward to in the future: We are looking forward to more adventures together and learning more about each other. We will never stop learning about each other and that's what keeps marriage interesting! In each of the last four years, we have been able to escape together at least once for a special getaway. We've gone camping, an overnight in Door County, WI, and then this year was California. We are so excited to see what comes next as our story unfolds!
