Upstate New York Wedding
In the midst of preparing for our next issue, don't forget to preorder here, we're so honored to share real love stories here on the online journal. Our wedding stories are from all over, including this gorgeous afternoon by the lake in upstate New York. We love the stripes, pastel touches on this Victorian home, but probably most of all how Karin and Will met - enjoy!
How did you and your husband meet? We met on the tennis courts at our local YMCA. I was 15, he was 17. He saw my tennis photo hanging up on the bulletin board and asked my coach what class I was in. He signed up for that same one. After a few weeks he asked me to his prom. I actually didn't know about this "tracking me down" part of this story until many years later.. (We just celebrated the 10th anniversary of our 1st date on April 4th!)
What was most important to you while planning your wedding? We wanted to have great people around us during the planning process so we could enjoy planning (as much as possible). Our families and close friends were a huge help, and when the big day came, we were be able to focus on enjoying it all without worrying about what needed to be done next.
Tell us about your venue, it is gorgeous. Why did you choose it? Chautauqua Institution was a big part of both of our lives growing up. We both worked and played there throughout the summers and continue to visit the grounds together. It is mainly a summer lake community with educational and entertainment programs for all ages, but it is beautiful all year round.
Favorite moment during your wedding? My favorite moment during our wedding was after our ceremony. We had finished our group photos & had one-on-one time taking photos with our photographer. It was amazing watching our party from a distance with everyone having a great time outside. It really clicked that it was happening and this was all for us.
What are you both most looking forward to in married life? Now that we are not planning such a complex event, we are able to enjoy focusing on our careers and traveling with friends when we aren't working. Though it is something we look forward to, kids are a few years off. For right now we are doing things people do in their mid 20's, and being a little selfish by just enjoying the two of us together.
