Be Painted

Wedding inspiration derived from literature makes our hearts sing. And this styled story provides both authentic, beautiful inspiration and deep meaning - two things we celebrate most. Photographer Amy Gaerthofner sent these photographs to us and shared a little more of her behind the scenes inspiration for the shoot. Read more below.

“Remember that He is the artist and you are only the picture. You can’t see it. So quietly submit to be painted.......You are in the right way. Walk—don’t keep looking at it.” - C.S. Lewis, The Collected Letters of C. S. Lewis, Volume 3

The quote from CS Lewis inspired this film shoot. The wisdom in this quote suggests that there is a greater force and that one should allow their lives to unfold naturally. Beautiful things will happen in your lifetime as long as you let them. Fighting for what you think you want or need might be the wrong way to live your life. I know that when I think about letting things be I'm much happier in my own life.

The shoot came together with much of this quote in mind. I wanted to work with vendors who were passionate with what they do. I didn't want to force any part of the shoot. I wanted everything to just "come together."

The main part of the shoot took place at a beautiful barn venue in the picturesque shores of lake Michigan in a resort area known as Door County Wisconsin. Just beyond this beautiful barn are sandy beaches along the lake. The best of what the area has to offer. The styling of the shoot was to be beautiful but not too fussy. I used elements I found around my home and at local thrift stores.

I hope this shoot evokes thought and feeling. Living your days full of stress and worry isn't good for anyone's spirit. Being able to take away any bits from this shoot and the CS Lewis quote will hopefully install a bit a peace into anyone's day.
