Internal Landscapes
When creating stories for our print issues, we take considerable amount of time investing in our creative process before sending any stories to creatives for development. Editor in Chief Katie O. Selvidge drafts the entire 'book' from end to end. While we have three different chapters covering different aspects of life, we are careful that each story is meticulously designed to fit within the theme and the story arc for where it is placed. And while many stories are set definitely, we generously allow for creative space for artists to submit work to us or take our ideas into a new, fresh direction as cultivating a rich artistic community and standard is one of the key aspects to our internal mission.
This story was one inspired by poetry of Pablo Neruda for our Captivated issue and focused on movement between two bodies. Katie sent a book of Pablo's work to designer Melanie McKinley of Mayhar Design and she translated the story into something absolutely beautiful with her creative team. The text supporting the photographs by Annie Jones (who is also featured in The Pioneer Issue) gave us all something inspiring and moving to share with our readers.
