A Gorgeous 1920s Inspired Wedding

We are excited to be back with a new real wedding. It has been so fun to finally share previews from The Captivated Issue, but today we have an online-exclusive wedding from Zipporah Kapambwe Photography of Janee and Micah. Not only does this couple have beautiful style, but we love how they celebrated their fifth anniversary just after two months of marriage. Read more below from bride Janee.

How did you and your husband meet?
We met on NYE of 2010 at the restaurant he manages, Suzy Wong's House of Yum. We had spotted each other there a few times before and there was definitely a connection, but we had never spoken before. That night, I was determined to make a connection. I asked our server for a napkin and pen, which I planned to write my number on and give to him before leaving the restaurant. Before I had a chance to do it, Micah came over to our table, sat next to me, and we started talking. After a few minutes he said "Hey, you should write down your number so I can call you sometime" and I replied, "Why do you think I have this napkin and pen?"

How did he propose?
He proposed at our favorite park (Long Hunter State Park), while hiking our favorite nature trail. I was totally surprised, because it was just an average Monday afternoon, I had on sweat pants and no makeup. I loved how natural it was. There was no big production or pressure, or a ton of people watching. It was intimate and real and beautiful.

What was most important to you when planning your wedding?
I think the most important thing for me was to really enjoy the planning process. I didn't want to look back and feel like I missed out on opportunities to bond with my mom, or Micah's mom, or so many other friends and family members because I was too stressed out. We also hired a stylist (12th Table) and started planning really early to alleviate stress. We really enjoyed planning it!

Describe the style of your wedding. We love the 1920's influence, was there a reason for this particular style?
We love the style from the 1920s. The clothes and hair styles were so distinct, elegant, and detailed. We balanced the 1920s theme by bringing in some modern and natural elements as well, which 12th Table helped us do so beautifully. We also took some inspiration from the decor in our home with the soft shades of grey and gold accents. It all blended together so well.

What was your most memorable moment of your wedding day?
Spending the wedding day getting ready in the bridal suite at Iriswoods with all of my favorite women was definitely a memorable experience. It was such a calm morning, not the frantic experience you see in the movies. The first look was really special, as well as the ceremony. The ceremony was definitely my favorite part of it all.

What has marriage taught you just in these few months?
So far, I think we've learned that our marriage doesn't fit in the box our culture tries to fit marriage into - and that's more than ok. Our culture says it's all supposed to look and feel a certain way, but I think it's really about staying true to yourself and sticking together and doing what works best for you. I've also learned that being married is fun! Just 2 months after we got married, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary. People say that relationships get less exciting after a few years. It's been quite the contrary. It just keeps getting better and better.
